Toon Juice

These guys (left to right: Cleo, Rambi and Snitz) came from a FormZ tutorial on making a human head. When I realized that it was way beyond my skills I "dumbed it down" and found that I could make toon heads. All the objects in this scene use a modeling technology called Bezier Patchs. This is a process that builds an object from a single, large, low poly patch that is shaped by Bezier tools. Another patch is then added next to it, which conforms to the first one. This one is pulled into shape and the whole process is repeated until the basic head shape is completed. Patches (say around the eyes and nose) that need more polygons are subdivided and then pulled into shape.
Since FormZ allows just about any object to be converted to Patches, the bottle and the stand were originally a low poly lathed object and a cube. These were converted to patches with auto smoothing. The objects were then formed as above.
All the objects were exported to .OBJ and then staged, textured and rendered in Bryce 4.1. The label was created in Painter 3D using clip art from the Aridi Historical Ornaments CD.
